Machu Picchu, Peru - “Ride with the Inca” |
The Machu Picchu trip in Peru takes us through the most famous Inca ruins in all of South America. The trip kicks off from Cusco, Peru which is located roughly 800 km (500 miles) east and 3,500m (13,500') above Lima. After a brief acclimatization period where we will check out awesome Cusco, the riding will begin the next day with a ride up and out of the valley and through a multitude of local Inca ruins by mountain bike! The first couple of days will of course be casual because we will be riding at elevations from 13,500' to 15,000'! After that it is off into the Sacred Valley along the Urumbaba River followed be a 2 day trek along a jungle road down into the Amazon. From there we will take the train up to the most famous Inca ruins in all of South America - awesome Machu Picchu!
Daily riding distances will vary from 30km (20 miles) to 90km (55 miles) and the breakdown is approximately 35% single track and 65% mountain & jungle roads. The support crew will be with us the entire time and will be looking after all transportation of personal gear, food and supplies as well as ensuring that everyone is enjoying themselves and having a fantastic time.
The Machu Picchu trip consists of 9 days and 8 nights with about 5 1/2 days of riding. Approximately 1 night will be spent in tents while the rest of the time will be in 3+ star hotels. Trip size is limited to 12 riders and is supported by 2 guides, 2 support personnel and support vehicles.
